Imperator I-class carried up 9,700 troops, as well as massive war vehicles such as AT-AT and AT-ST walkers. AT-AT barges and other landing craft were used to deliver ground assault forces to a planet's surface.
The Star Destroyer could use its guns and TIE starfighters to support any surface action. If a planet required a lasting presence, a Star Destroyer could quickly deploy a prefabricated garrison base.

Stormtrooper Tactical Organization stations Stormtroopers largest unit, Legions, onto Star Destroyers. This however creates the following problems.

• The command officer of the Stormtrooper Legion (High Colonel) is of equal rank (O-5) as the ships Captain (Line Captain)
• The Stormtrooper compliment of 9700 on a Imperial I-class Star Destroyer is less than the amount of personnel of Legion (9813)
• A Stormtrooper Legion is not a combined arms unit, instead only comprises of infantry, and any special or support units being outside the Legion.

I propose the concept of a Ships Division, consisting of two Infantry Regiments (3631) and one combined arms Support Brigade (2415) with a total of around 9700 personnel. This unit has enough personal to support a large amount of Stormtroopers, fit inside the Star Destroyers compliment, and led by a Colonel (OF-5b) which is subordinate to the ships commander, a Line Captain (OF-5a).

Ships Division can be scaled down to fit on smaller ships such as the Victory class Star Destroyers. Based around one or two Line Battalions and a Support Battalion made up of Heavy Armor Company, Scout Armor Platoons, Assault Wing.
