Imperial-class Star Destroyers have at least 37,000 officers and crew, additionally a complement of stormtroopers (one division or legion), would total 46,700. This would include 9,235 officers and 27,850 enlisted personnel, a stormtrooper detachment of 9,700, Flight crew and maintenance, gunners, and support staff such as flag staff and intelligence.

Command Officers/ Departments/ Divisions

At the top is the ship’s Commanding Officer (CO), who is ultimately responsible for the entire ship and the assigned mission. Next in line is the Executive Officer (XO), from the XO on down, the ship’s individual functions are handled by the ship’s company via different departments. Each department is subdivided into divisions with personnel manning these divisions assigned to "Watches," "Sections," or both.

Commanding Officer: Commands the ship, storm trooper and flight compliment, holding the rank of Line Captain.
Line Department Heads: Executive Officer (Commander or Junior Captain), Flight Group (Captain), Stormtroops (Colonel)
Department Heads: Wing Commander (Commander), Support Wing Commander (Commander), Officer of the Deck, Operations Officer, Chief Engineer (Lt Commander).
Section Heads: Squadron Leader (Lt Commander), Second Engineer, Watch, or Shift supervisor (Lieutenant).
Unit Leads: Flight Leader, platoon leader, battery officer (Lieutenant).
Element Leads: Element Leader, platoon leader, holding the rank of a grade of lieutenant.

A Stormtrooper Legion (9,813) has 8,192 enlisted men to the 1,620 officers, with a ratio of 5:1, where as Navy only has a ratio of 3:1. This unusually high ratio can be explained by enlisted jobs being taken up by droids, more positions requiring technical training to officer or warrant grade, and also including warrant officers in the officer numbers.

The enlisted ranks comprised the Navy's specialists, security personnel, and technicians. Imperial Navy crewmen manned ship stations and maintained systems, monitoring the various instruments on various vessels. Crewmen often worked in sunken pits on the bridge, ostensibly to keep them focused on their work, but also as an intimidation measure.
